Lost Lake

“And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.” -John Muir

14 Miles with a 70% chance of rain? Throw in a couple of wonderful sidekicks, and we say yes! I am so glad we did not throw in the towel on this hike. We hiked in the Chugach National Forest, from the Primrose Trailhead through to the Lost Lake Trailhead near Seward, Alaska. What a spectacular day! Not only did this hike include amazing scenery and very little rain, but there were endless berries, and we had our heads in the clouds for a while. Never before have I hiked literally into the clouds; it was incredible. Within the clouds, the air felt thick and damp; we could barely see in front of us. It was an experience I will never forget.

To get back to the endless berries, I tasted many new varieties of berries on this hike (thankfully I had someone who knew what they were talking about with me!). We ate wild raspberries, blueberries, service berries, salmon berries, watermelon seed berries….soooo delicious! We saw many of my favorite little black flowers (I should figure out what they are!), “super mario” mushrooms, purple (Yes, purple!) pinecones, moss, mushroom covered trees, this interesting white cover we decided to call forest coral…so many beautiful things. There is something pretty amazing about much of the water in Alaska-nothing will ever compare to that beautiful teal color. What a wonderful world we live in!
